From TAPinto Camden:

CAMDEN, NJ  — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Camden as the annual tree lighting and the second annual Christmas Railroad experience take place today, Dec. 4.

The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Center will hold its second annual Christmas Railroad experience today, from 1 to 8 p.m. To participate, parents must first register here.

As parents drive their children from station to station in the rear of the center, they will be greeted by a train conductor with hot cocoa. Children will also get the opportunity to meet Santa Claus.

"Each family's mission if they choose to accept it, is to collect all the goodies of Christmas and learn the true meaning of the holiday by driving through and participating in the caper to rescue Christmas,” said Captain Keith Maynor.

Families and children will also be provided with other holiday treats including hams, and marshmallow snowmen.

And, from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at the Camden Waterfront, Mayor Vic Carstarphen will host the city's Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration with holiday carolers, stilt walkers, hot cocoa, holiday train rides and crafts.

This event will take place at 2 Aquarium Loop Drive and is free.

In the coming weeks, the Kroc Center will operate an Angel Tree toy shop. This will take place from Dec. 13-17.  During this period, each child 12 and under will receive two brand-new toys. The event is expected to serve over 1,500 families and over 3,500 children.
