What empowering youth looks like:

Character-Building

Building character starts young and helps determine who a child will become in life. Our programs help develop a child's unique personality and individual strengths, based on biblical principles.

Girls can attend Moonbeams (preschool to Kindergarten), Sunbeams (first through fifth grades) and Girl Guards (sixth through 12th grades). Boys can attend Moonbeams (preschool to Kindergarten), Adventure Corps Explorers (first through fourth grades) and Rangers (fifth through eighth grades).

Summer Camps

For many kids, summer camp is the first time they will see the world outside of their neighborhood. Each year, we enable thousands of children from low-income families to enjoy fresh air, exercise and new friendships through our annual summer camp programs. This camping experience is more than just a few days away from home. Here, children learn new skills and self-reliance. Trained counselors who understand their emotional needs and problems help them mature and grow. Camp activities include learning to swim, scouting, arts and crafts, music development and sports.

Trailblazers

A program for at-risk 6th grade boys and girls that raises the level of expectations in the lives of these young people and challenges them to live a life of excellence.

This is a program that encompasses mind, body and soul.  As a direct result of TRAILBLAZERS, the children participating in the program enjoy improved academics, school attendance and behavior.  The children also learn leadership, responsibility, communication skills, good hygiene and how to blaze their OWN trail for others to follow.

Dance, Art and Music

J.A.M.S.
A program that helps children to learn a musical instrument at no charge to them.

Music, dance, and art are crucial for youth development and enrichment. Our diverse programs offer instrument training, painting, drama, dance, poetry, and more.

Research also shows that when a child learns an instrument, a child's ability to manage anxiety and control emotions are increased.

Summer Day Camp

THE SPRINGFIELD SALVATION ARMY HAS OFFERED SUMMER DAY CAMP FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES SINCE 1988 and we have no plans on stopping anytime soon!

We have seen the difference a camp like this makes on these beautiful children.  This camp is designed to create a camping experience unlike any other.  With fun events like horseback riding, swimming, fishing, bowling, hiking, crafts and games. At the end of camp we celebrate with a talent show full of our creative campers. We are dedicated to teaching valuable life lessons amidst all of the fun!

The cost of this camp is just $150 per child (multiple child discounts). This small fee is applied to transportation, activities and food costs.

A special thanks to the Springfield Foundation and the Springfield Rotarty for their hearts to help keep this amazing camp chuggin' along!  It's with their help that we are able to offer a great camping experience at such a minimal fee!

Mudokwan Taekwondo

At Mudokwan Martial Arts USA, students are taught and trained in the disciplines of Teakwondo and Judo. These disciplines combine to form a strong self-defense known as Hapkido. Students are trained to stop attacks and to control the attacker. More importantly, the students are trained to AVOID potentially violent situations; the best defense is never having to use self-defense.

Our students grow in confidence as their skills increase throughout the year. They experience the joy of winning and develop good sportsmanship skills that will prove to be valuable in years to come. They will learn the value of respect and will become disciplined in showing respect in and outside of class, as well as being disciplined to control their emotions. At Mudokwan Martial Arts USA, your child will be involved in a proven leadership development system. As they advance, they are enrolled into the "Junior Leadership Program" and progressively transition into the Leadership Team as they age, all under the direction and leadership of Head Master Rick Lloyd.

There are no long term contracts or billing companies involved.  Mudokwan operates solely on the honor system. There is a monthly fee of $50, this fee includes the uniforms, test, and events. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Beginner class times are 4:45pm-5:30pm. Advanced class times are 5:30pm-6:30pm. Adult classes times are 6:30pm-7:30pm.
