How do I make a bequest?

If you would like to include The Salvation Army in your will, first call the Gift Planning Director of the Western Pennsylvania Division who can explain our detailed wording guidelines. Our main concern is to ensure your bequest gift goes where you want it to go.

There are many programs and services you can choose. Also, you can specify a particular area. Maybe there are community issues near and dear to your heart that you would like to support? Our Gift Planning expert can show you all the different options available to you to fulfill your wishes for your estate gift to The Salvation Army.

How do I get started?
To get started please call or email Lisa Young, Gift Planning Director, at Lisa.Young@use.salvationarmy.org or (412) 446-1635.

What are my options?
A bequest can be made in several ways:

  1. You can gift a specific dollar amount or asset

  2. You can gift a percentage of your estate

  3. You can gift from the balance or residue of your estate

  4. You can make a beneficiary designation of certain assets

What are the benefits of making a bequest?

  1. You leave a lasting legacy to be remembered

  2. You lessen the burden of taxes on your family

  3. You may receive estate tax savings
