Our free programs provide the tools to treat the symptoms - and the root causes - of alcohol and drug dependence.
That's 6,500 families - with moms, dads, and kids - disrupted by the effects of drug and alcohol addiction.
Thomas came to The Salvation Army with just the clothes on his back after an attempted suicide. A substance user for over thirty years, He was tired of drugs, felt defeated by life, and just wanted it to end. Thomas graduated the program in February 2019 and gained full-time employment, he reports “I’ve found peace, I’ve found God, I’ve found serenity, I’ve found life back.”
For over 100 years, The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Centers and Harbor Light Program have offered spiritual, emotional, and social assistance to those who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves. Our free programs provide housing, food, counseling, community, and employment as we work to treat the symptoms, and ultimately the root causes, of prolonged alcohol and drug dependence.
The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers provide safe havens for men who have been left unable to cope with daily life. Some residents suffer from PTSD, substance abuse or homelessness. Through this residential work therapy program, they are provided a safe shelter, nutritious meals, group and individual therapy, job training, and emotional and spiritual support.
These centers are completely self-sustaining and are provided at no cost to the residents. Funding for these operations comes from The Salvation Army Family Stores, which sell gently-used donated clothing, furniture and household goods.
Three Adult Rehabilitation Centers are found throughout the Western Pennsylvania Division – in Altoona, Erie and Pittsburgh. If you need help or know someone who may benefit from our program, please contact 1-800-SA-TRUCK (1-800-728-7825)

Through holistic work therapy, group and individual counseling sessions, spiritual direction, and life-skills development, program members learn to abandon substance reliance.
The physical and spiritual components of the program equip members to provide for themselves and others as they set and maintain sustainable employment goals.
By developing a personal relationship with God as provided by Jesus Christ, many residents learn to depend on God, rather than drugs or alcohol, for hope and relief.
Many who have been rehabilitated are reunited with their families and able to resume healthy daily routines. Kids get their parents back. People get their lives back.
