PITTSBURGH, State. (March 24, 2022) – Awakening Foundation, Altrua HealthShare and KLOVE Radio have teamed up with The Salvation Army again to support individuals and families struggling from pandemic poverty. The partnership, now poised to break $500,000 in total giving over multiple years, will present a donation to The Salvation Army at each concert tour stop.

Contemporary Christian artist TobyMac will perform at Peterson Events Center on Saturday, April 2 at 7 P.M., where The Salvation Army Steel Valley Worship and Service Center will receive a $1,500 contribution in support of local services, including its Love in a Backpack program. Love in a Backpack provides local children with healthy, supplemental food for the weekends and over the summer. Click here to purchase tickets.

Many people think of The Salvation Army as bell ringers and Red Kettles at Christmas. Few know the role the organization plays in helping suffering humanity throughout the year. When the pandemic began in 2020, The Salvation Army responded with shelter to those experiencing homelessness, meal services to those experiencing food insecurity, financial assistance to those facing evictions, and emotional and spiritual care to those needing a listening ear or encouraging word.

As the impact of the pandemic lingers, basic services like feeding continue to be essential for individuals and families that could otherwise be forced to decide between eating a meal or paying bills like utilities or rent.

Celebrating over 150 years of global service as both a church and a social service organization, The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865. Today, it provides critical services in 132 countries worldwide. The 28-county Western Pennsylvania Division serves thousands of needy families through a wide variety of support services.
