The Salvation Army’s Camp Allegheny Announces Partnership with Aetna Better Health® Kids
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. (June 6, 2022) – The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division is proud to announce Aetna Better Health Kids, a CVS Health company, will be supporting this summer’s Camp Allegheny. As part of this partnership, Aetna Better Health Kids will provide health and wellness items to campers, along with fun activities on nutrition and fitness.
“We are excited to welcome everyone back to our 110-acre camp this summer,” Captain Bramwell Applin, The Salvation Army’s Divisional Youth Secretary and Camp Director said. “We offer a diverse array of programming, including swimming, arts and crafts, target sports, gardening and farming lessons, hiking and so much more. This experience is made possible only through the generous support of corporate partners like Aetna, and the kindness of countless donors.”
To kick off this partnership, a group of Aetna employees will travel to The Salvation Army’s Camp Allegheny to fill bags with health and wellness items that will be given to campers, most of whom are from families that could not otherwise afford to send their children to summer camp if it weren’t for Camp Allegheny’s inclusion for children of all socio-economic backgrounds. There is an opportunity to cover this volunteer event beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 10 at Camp Allegheny, located outside Ellwood City. Representatives from The Salvation Army and Aetna will be available for interviews.
“We look forward to partnering with The Salvation Army to help provide this one-of-a-kind experience for children from across Western Pennsylvania,” said David Shafer, Interim Chief Executive Officer and President, Aetna Better Health of Pennsylvania. “By working together, we can help ensure the next generation has a healthy future.”
Aetna Better Health Kids has provided health benefits and care management services to young people enrolled in Pennsylvania’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for more than 25 years.
The Salvation Army’s Camp Allegheny will run June 13 through August 6, 2022. The camp provides memorable experiences to children from across 28 counties in Western Pennsylvania. For many kids, summer camp is the first time they will see the world outside of their neighborhood. Each year, more than 1,200 children ages 6-12 enjoy fresh air, exercise and new friendships through The Salvation Army’s summer camp programs. Trained counselors help children mature and grow, and children learn new skills and self-reliance. Camp activities include swimming, kayaking, arts and crafts, music development and sports.
