Aetna Better Health Kids Supports The Salvation Army’s Back-to-School Readiness Programs

PITTSBURGH (July 25, 2023) – The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division will assist local students from across 28 counties in Western Pennsylvania. Various back-to-school events will provide much-need backpacks, school supplies, hygiene packs, haircuts, vision and dental screenings and more. Thanks to generous support from Aetna Better Health Kids, a CVS Health company, The Salvation Army will be able to better assist students living in Greensburg, Johnstown, Rochester and Washington, Pennsylvania.

“The Salvation Army’s back-to-school events are a vital resource to families ahead of the new school year,” Major Gregory Hartshorn, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania said. “Providing necessary school supplies allows families to focus on their student’s education. This is only possible thanks to support from partners like Aetna Better Health Kids and generous members of the community. Thank you for helping us meet the need across Western Pennsylvania.”

All students entering grades K-12 are eligible for assistance. Families should contact their local Salvation Army Worship and Service Center, which can be found on salvationarmywpa.org, for information about services available in their area.

“Adequate school supplies are essential for the education and well-being of children,” said Jerold Mammano, Division President, Aetna Medicaid. “Every child deserves the chance to excel in the classroom and beyond. Our collaboration with The Salvation Army will help the next generation have the tools they need to succeed.”

If you wish to support students in need in your area, donations can be made online. By choosing the monthly option, you ensure children have the necessary tools, resources and opportunities to excel academically and reach their full potential all year long.

Celebrating over 150 years of global service as both a church and a social service organization, The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865. Today, it provides critical services in 132 countries worldwide. The 28-county Western Pennsylvania Division serves thousands of needy families through a wide variety of support services.
