Grove City Volunteer Honored for Outstanding Service

Apr 15, 2024

Pastor Pam Schnelzer has been awarded the 2024 Community Service Award recipient by the Grove City Area United Way.  For the past 14 years, Pastor Pam has served as the leader of The Salvation Army Grove City Service Unit. Her work has been instrumental in helping individuals and families in crisis throughout the community. Over the last 14 years, her team of volunteers has expanded services offered by The Salvation Amry in Grove City.

“Pastor Pam has a heart for service,” Fran Brace, Development Director for The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division said. “She truly lives out the mission of The Salvation Army serving all of those in need. We are grateful for her leadership and continue to be amazed by her dedication to Grove City residents.”

Pastor Pam was honored at the Grove City Area United Way’s Annual Awards Luncheon at Grove City College on Thursday, April 11. This annual event celebrates the past year’s accomplishments and recognizes the important work of United Way grant-funded organizations and the United Way’s local Board of Directors.

“It’s all about heart, it’s not just a handout to those in need” Pastor Pam said. “None of this would be possible without the love of God.”

In her speech, Pastor Pam also expressed heartfelt gratitude to her family, many of whom who were present to watch her receive the honor. “Without their love and support, I could not do what I do.”

During the ceremony, Grove City Mayor Randy Riddle announced a proclamation that April 11, 2024 would be a day named in her honor. Pennsylvania State Representative Timothy Bonner was also on hand and issued official citation to recognize her service to the community.

The Salvation Army Grove City Service Unit is run entirely by community volunteers who are dedicated to doing the most good for their neighbors in need. The unit offers various special projects each year for students, seniors and women in the community. Under Pam’s leadership the Service Unit raised more than $12K in Red Kettle donations in 2023, as well as additional private gifts.
