The Salvation Army Needs Help to Rescue Christmas for Local Community
PITTSBURGH, PA (December 10, 2020) –The Salvation Army’s iconic Christmas Red Kettle Campaign, now in its 130th year, is struggling to meet its fundraising targets as communities nationwide continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Salvation Army Corps and Service Centers in Greenville, Homewood, Meadville, and Monessen have raised less than 20 percent of their total fundraising goals and need Red Kettle donations.
The Salvation Army Western PA Division has raised $875,500 across 28 counties, about 39 percent of the total fundraising goal of $2.3 million. In Allegheny County $201,000 has been raised, 39 percent of its total goal of $520,000.
“The Western PA region has a history of doing the most good for its neighbors by supporting The Salvation Army’s efforts to help our most vulnerable brothers and sisters. Even as we face a tsunami of need, which we don’t anticipate diminishing for many, many months, I believe our community will rally around us again this year,” said Major Raphael Jackson, Divisional Commander, The Salvation Army Western PA.
Donations can be made online at www.salvationarmywpa.org/RescueChristmas, with Apple Pay or Google Pay at a physical red kettle, by texting “KETTLES” to 91999, with spare change and cash at a physical red kettle at your local retailer, or by shopping at Walmart and “rounding up” your purchase with a donation at a cash register or online.
