Leaving a Loving Legacy
For more than 150 years, The Salvation Army has been serving vulnerable individuals and families wherever, whenever and however they can. The Salvation Army is the only national service organization positioned to meet human needs in every ZIP code in America. This is only possible thanks to the support of generous individuals and partners. For George and Carol Baur, their appreciation for The Salvation Army started at a young age.
Back in World War II, George’s family saw firsthand how The Salvation Army helped servicemen, along with their wives and children. George met his wife Carol right before he joined the Navy during the Vietnam War. Soon, they were married and off to Washington State where George was stationed. Carol also worked for the Navy as they began their lives together.
Over time, The Salvation Army became one of Carol’s favorite charities. Once the couple returned home to Pennsylvania, she generously supported The Salvation Army locations in Greensburg and Jeannette, Pennsylvania. Throughout her life, Carol continued to donate to both of these local locations.
“She was a wonderful person, who was taken too young,” George said, “She was always ready to help those in need.”
Carol’s life and legacy inspired the Carol Eade Baur Endowment Fund, now benefitting The Salvation Army in Jeannette. George also has plans to create a fund in her memory for The Salvation Army in Greensburg.
“This is such a good way to remember a loved one, by supporting The Salvation Army,” George said.
