Light Display to Collect Donations for WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up
PITTSBURGH (December 5, 2023) – Turn old, used Christmas lights into NEW winter outerwear! Thanks to a new partnership, Michael Brothers Companies will have a collection stand for donations of old, used strands of holiday lights during the 4th Annual Monticello Lights in Delmont on Saturday, December 9 and Sunday, December 10. All proceeds from the recycling and a portion of the proceeds of Monticello Lights, the annual neighborhood spectacular drive-through competition, will go directly to WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up, which provides NEW winter outerwear for children and seniors.
“Thank you to Monticello Lights and Michael Brothers for teaming up to #bundlethemup,” said Victoria Gill, Director of WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up. “We are humbled beyond words these two partners thought of our cause and came up with this idea. This generosity will help us make the winter brighter for those who need it most.”
During the 2022-23 winter season, WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up provided coats, boots, gloves and hats for nearly 5,000 children and seniors. As part of this program, children and senior citizens over the age of 62 from low-income households throughout Western Pennsylvania are paired up with volunteers to go shopping to pick out all NEW warm winter outerwear – including coats, hats, gloves and boots.
Old strands of lights can also be dropped off for recycling at Michael Brothers locations across the Pittsburgh area including the locations in Baldwin, Reserve Township, Adamsburg and Mt. Pleasant. Donations for recycling can also be placed at designated bins at certain hardware stores and municipalities. Visit project Bundle-Up’s Facebook page to find the nearest location. Monetary donations made at the Monticello Light Display will be split evenly between WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up and Delmont Borough Parks and Recreation.
Since its inception in 1986, WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up has raised $17 million, providing more than 305,000 children and older adults with NEW winter outerwear across Western Pennsylvania.
