Neighbors Helping Neighbors: The Salvation Army Hosts Feed It Forward Dining Experience
PITTSBURGH (August 8, 2024) – The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple Worship and Service Center is proud to announce the return of Feed It Forward, a unique community dining experience, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 27. All proceeds from this second annual event will help feed local community members across the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
“We are immensely grateful for the support of our community partners in making last year's inaugural fundraiser a resounding success,” Major Justin Caldwell, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple Worship and Service Center, said. “We look forward to continuing to grow this fundraiser and our programs. Every donation brings us closer to a community where no one goes to bed hungry. Thank you for helping us provide nourishment to our neighbors in need.”
The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple location serves families and individuals throughout the South Hills in Beechview, Bethel Park, Brookline, Carrick, Castle Shannon, Dormont, Knoxville, Library, Mt. Lebanon, Mt. Oliver, Mt. Washington, Scott Township and Upper St. Clair. In the last fiscal year (2022-23), The Salvation Army served 5,400 meals at the local Worship and Service Center located on McNeilly Road, and 35,925 grocery orders were provided from the choice food pantry. The choice food pantry is set up like a grocery store and empowers individuals to select their own food items, creating a dignified shopping experience. Ten onsite garden beds also flourish with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and zucchini, providing fresh produce to the community.
The Feed It Forward fundraiser will include hors d'oeuvres, a delicious chef’s dinner, live music and an auction. During the dinner, speaker and pastor Antwann Yocum, with Habitat for Humanity, will share his powerful story of how The Salvation Army helped his family. Tickets can be purchased at salvationarmywpa.org/feed.
