The Salvation Army Western PA Division Opens New North Boroughs Worship and Service Center
Monday, July 20, 2020 (Avalon, Pa.) – The Salvation Army Western PA Division began its legacy of serving on the frontlines of compassion in the north neighborhoods of Pittsburgh in 1896, now marking a new milestone in that history with the opening of a brand-new Worship and Service Center in North Boroughs.
The Salvation Army North Boroughs Worship and Service Center, located at 327 S. Home Avenue, Avalon, Pa. 15202, represents much more than a new building: this space will provide new, exciting and free programming for youth, families, and seniors, building hope and transforming lives. Weekly worship will be offered to the community every Sunday at 11 a.m.
Families will have access to an emergency food pantry. Community children will have access to a fun and engaging free music program. Individuals in need will connect with Comprehensive Social Services provided by The Salvation Army, gaining access to rent and utility assistance, along with basic needs. In addition, new programming will be shaped by the community’s needs.
“Building hope is one of the things The Salvation Army does best,” said Major Raphael Jackson, Western PA Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army. “These types of positive changes foster more vibrant communities with brighter futures. The new Salvation Army Worship and Service Center in North Boroughs will be a place for the entire community to come together and flourish.”
The new facility will serve Glenshaw, Avalon, Bellevue, Ben Avon, Emsworth, Millvale, Ross Township, West View, Northside, Franklin Park, and other area neighborhoods.
“We look forward to the ways in which this beautiful new facility will bring our community together – through worship, programs, and collaborations that will only enhance the lives of people who call North Boroughs and its surrounding neighborhoods home,” said Avalon Mayor Tom Lloyd.
