Before beginning their studies at The Salvation Army’s College for Officer Training in New York in 2018, Lt. Kelly served as the director of The Salvation Army’s Service Center in Carnegie, PA. She then went on to work with The Salvation Army Western PA Division’s Pathway of Hope program, which helps individuals in need to gain financial stability and independence. In addition, both lieutenants have experience as small business owners, as Lt. Tylar owned and operated an airbrush shop for 10 years, and Lt. Kelly previously owned a clothing boutique.

“As new leaders in this community, it’s our vision to collaborate with others and establish strong relationships to make sure we are meeting the needs of every individual who reaches out and walks through our doors,” said Lieutenant Kelly Melfi.

Lt. Tylar’s focus is on Youth Ministries, music, art and nature, while Lt. Kelly is passionate about supporting people spiritually, helping them to develop relationships with God through weekly Sunday worship at 11 a.m., fellowship, and more. The Melfi’s have two boys: Jasiah 5, and Ysrael 3. Their goal as a family is to be faithful and effective servants of God’s Kingdom in North Boroughs.

The North Boroughs Worship and Service Center, located at 327 S. Home Avenue, Avalon, Pa. 15202 provides new, exciting and free programming for youth, families, and seniors, building hope and transforming lives. Families have access to an emergency food pantry.
