The Salvation Army Western PA Division Needs Gently Used Clothing and Shoes for Kids to Prepare for Back-To-School This Fall!

May 20, 2021 | by Stephanie Rex

(Mount Lebanon, PA) May 20, 2021 –The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple Worship and Service Center is collecting gently used clothing and shoes for local students in need at this year’s clothing drive on Saturday, June 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This annual event is held in partnership with the Mt. Lebanon Police Association and Mt. Lebanon High School. The clothing drive will take place in the parking lot of the Southminster Presbyterian Church (799 Washington Road) next to the Mt. Lebanon Library. Volunteers will be on hand to receive your donations of gently used kids clothing and shoes for grades K-12.

Items in particular demand include kid’s jeans, shorts, polos, sweatshirts, sneakers, dress shoes and dress clothes in all sizes and genders.

Each year, The Salvation Army assists local students from the South Hills in need with clothes, backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, and more, to make sure they return to the classroom safe and ready to learn.  The donations will be sorted and distributed in August to those in need prior to the start of the new school year.

“This is an opportunity for local families to share gently used items with those truly in need, combining spring cleaning and Doing The Most Good. What a blessing it can be for local kids who will have increased confidence this fall with a new-to-them outfit or pair of shoes,” said Captain Justin Caldwell, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple Worship and Service Center located on McNeilly Road.

Celebrating over 150 years of global service as both a church and a social service organization, The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865. Today, it provides critical services without discrimination in 132 countries worldwide.
