The Salvation Army’s River and Wind Challenge Event to Raise Funds for Somerset County Families in Need
Tuesday, August 17, 2021 (Somerset, Pa.) – The Salvation Army’s 20th Annual River and Wind Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 18 offers the community a day of biking for the whole family that will raise funds to directly support local neighbors in need in Somerset County.
Starting at 8 a.m. at the Meyersdale Train Station, registrants will ride bikes along the Great Allegheny Passage for a good cause. Participation directly helps families in Somerset County who reach out to The Salvation Army for emergency food, utility, and rent assistance.
Riders can choose between a 50 or 25.9 mile bike ride. Registrants will receive a gift bag, refreshments, and a catered lunch with to-go options available. Based on funds raised, registrants are also eligible to receive a t-shirt, sunglasses, and/or riding jersey. All levels of support and fundraising will make a difference in tangible ways in Somerset County:
- $100 provides 42 meals for families in need.
- $250 keeps a family warm with utility assistance.
- $500 provides a rent payment for someone in need.
- Or: $50 covers your registration fee for the event!
The deadline for fundraising is Thursday, September 9. There is no registration deadline.
“This event offers Somerset County families the perfect opportunity to get outside, enjoy the trails together, and do the most good with The Salvation Army,” said Gale Purbaugh, the Somerset Salvation Army Service Center Director. “We know this event will bring hope to the community and provide a fun outlet for people to make a difference together for our local neighbors in need.”
