The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program Accepting Applications

Oct 30, 2024

PITTSBURGH (October 30, 2024) - The Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania wants to ensure everyone feels the special joy surrounding the Christmas season. This is why The Salvation Army provides thousands of children and individuals with Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, winter coats, clothing, toys and gifts at this time of year. The Salvation Army is now accepting applications in Allegheny County for holiday assistance, including the organization’s beloved Angel Tree tradition.

Each year, children create wish lists that are shared with hundreds of companies, small businesses, churches and individuals. Across 28 counties in Western Pa., gifts and toys are collected and sorted by hundreds of volunteers at various Salvation Army locations, then given to families to put under the tree for Christmas day. Last season, The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division Angel Tree Program distributed more than 100,000 toys to children. Visit salvationarmywpa.org/AngelTree to view a chart to find contact information for your local Salvation Army location. If you do not see your ZIP code listed, please call (412) 446-1500 for referral to your local Salvation Army.

The holidays are a time for family and friends to gather and celebrate. Yet for many, it is a time of isolation and loneliness. In addition to Angel Tree, The Salvation Army makes sure individuals and families in need and those without a home for the holidays have something to eat. From hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, to delivering meals, to stocking food pantries, The Salvation Army is proud to give the gift of a full stomach to our neighbors in need. Throughout Allegheny County in November and December The Salvation Army prepares and distributes meals and turkeys, as well as grocery store gift cards and nonperishable food baskets.

The annual Red Kettle Campaign ensures The Salvation Army can continue its critical services all year long which include feeding programs, rent and utility assistance, seasonal assistance, youth empowerment and spiritual programs. Visit salvationarmywpa.org or text the word ‘Kettle’ to 31333 to make a donation.
