The Salvation Army to Host ‘Feed It Forward’ Dining Experience in the South Hills
PITTSBURGH (August 31, 2023) – The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple Worship and Service Center invites the community to “Feed It Forward,” a unique community dining experience beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27. All proceeds from the event will help feed local community members across the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
“Many of our neighbors are only one job loss or medical crisis away from food insecurity,” Major Justin Caldwell, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple Worship and Service Center, said. “We cannot fight hunger alone. Our work is only possible thanks to generous corporate and community partners who come alongside us to provide much-needed nutritious food.”
The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple location serves families and individuals in the South Hills including Bethel Park, Brookline, Castle Shannon, Dormont, Mount Lebanon and surrounding areas. Since January 2021, The Salvation Army choice food pantry, located on McNeilly Road, has provided 36,348 families with food. The choice food pantry is set up like a grocery store where those in need can pick out and “shop” for items. The Salvation Army has also provided boxes with essential food items to more than 750 older adults. Ten onsite garden beds with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and zucchini also provide fresh produce to the community.
The “Feed It Forward” fundraiser will include hors d'oeuvres, a chef’s dinner, live music and an auction. Tickets can be purchased at salvationarmywpa.org/feed. Thank you to Legacy Remodeling for serving as a sponsor of this event. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available.
