The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania in Need of Support Before Christmas Eve
PITTSBURGH (December 21, 2022) – The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division is in the last few days of its most important fundraiser of the year. The goal is to raise $2.294 million before December 24, 2022. The Red Kettle Campaign supports families and individuals across 28 counties, and ensures The Salvation Army can continue its critical services including feeding programs, rent and utility assistance, seasonal assistance, youth empowerment and spiritual programs.
So far, the Division has raised an estimated $1.45 million across 28 counties, more than 63 percent of the total fundraising goal of $2.294 million. The fundraising goal for Allegheny County is $565,500. So far across the county, The Salvation Army has raised an estimated $306,000, 54 percent of the total goal for Allegheny. Pittsburgh’s Allegheny Valley, McKeesport, Steel Valley and Westside locations have raised less than 55 percent of funding goals and need the community’s increased support. The Salvation Army’s Aliquippa, Altoona, Beaver Falls, Jeannette, Johnstown, Sharon, Venango County and Washington Corps are also in need of increased support in order to continue to fund critical, year-round services.
“The Salvation Army’s red kettles have been synonymous with Christmas and the season of giving for more than 150 years, and we are not stopping now,” said Major Gregory Hartshorn, Divisional Commander, The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division. “Thank you to everyone who has generously contributed so far. Each donation to a red kettle means food on the table, shelter on a cold night and so much more to our neighbors in need. Help us remind families and individuals that they’re loved not only on Christmas, but all year long. If you haven’t had the chance to make your year-end gift to The Salvation Army, now would be a great time to drop it into your nearest red kettle!”
Every donation placed in a red kettle goes directly back into the community where it is received. Donations can also be made virtually at any time by visiting salvationarmywpa.org/LoveBeyond. We thank our Allegheny County Red Kettle Kickoff Sponsor PNC Bank for their continued support. Monetary donations can now be dropped off directly at PNC branches throughout Western Pennsylvania.
