PITTSBURGH, Pa. (October 15, 2020) – The Salvation Army Western PA Division needs your help in giving children the gift of hope this Christmas as its annual Treasures for Children program launches a virtual toy drive for 2020.

With one click, you can easily support our Treasures for Children holiday toy program in the following ways:

  • Make a monetary donation to The Salvation Army to purchase a toy on your behalf. Your donation will provide toys for children in need in your zip code.
  • Purchase a toy online from the retailer of your choice and ship it directly to your local Salvation Army Community Center, or personally deliver it to the center. Instructions are at the bottom of this page.

Donations can be made now at: www.salvationarmywpa.org/tfc

Last year alone, The Salvation Army provided over 100,000 Christmas toys to vulnerable children. This year, your support is needed more than ever as an increased number of families experience the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have added the online giving component for Treasures for Children to make it easier for people to donate this year, knowing that our families need the community’s support now more than ever,” said Leah Cross, The Salvation Army Western PA Division’s Treasures for Children Coordinator. “So many families are struggling right now to meet their household’s basic needs. We rely on the love and generosity of our donors each year, and we pray that if you are able, please purchase a toy online today and have it shipped to The Salvation Army location in your community.”

The Salvation Army’s holiday toy program brings communities together to provide kids with Christmases they’ll never forget. Children create wish lists that are shared with hundreds of companies, small businesses, churches and individuals. Across 28 counties in Western PA, gifts and toys are collected and sorted by hundreds of volunteers at various Salvation Army locations, then given to families to put under the tree for Christmas day.

The Salvation Army Western PA Division provided 256,054 meals and 72,118 food boxes during the first three months of the pandemic, equal to 70% of the total meals and 50% of the total food boxes provided throughout the twelve full months of last fiscal year.

It is estimated that we will serve up to 155% more people this year with Christmas assistance: helping to put food on the table, helping to pay their bills, offering a safe place of shelter and warmth, and providing gifts and toys for children.

If you, your church, or your company is interested in being a part of this year’s Treasures for Children program, please call Leah Cross at 412-446-1534 or email leah.cross@use.salvationarmy.org.

Celebrating over 150 years of global service as both a church and a social service organization, The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865. Today, it provides critical services in 127 countries worldwide. The 28-county Western Pennsylvania Division serves thousands of needy families through a wide variety of support services.
