SK2 After School Program

The mission of SK2 (Smart Kids Strong Kids) is to strengthen families by providing an environment of fun and learning so that every child, with the help of their families and the Dayton Kroc Community, will successfully complete their school year.

Education

Strengthening families by providing a safe environment for children to complete homework and pursue new interests, we will:

  • Provide educational materials so that parents may better assist their children with their education.
  • Provide physical and recreational activities and electives designed for families and children so that children can build skills and demonstrate them to parents at the end of each session.
  • Offer targeted tutoring to assist students in academic goals in math and English especially.

Nutrition

Recognizing the decline of health among our nation’s children, we are determined to strengthen families by:

  • Providing healthy snacks and homemade meals with vegetables each day to improve their overall nutrition.
  • Creating healthy options for eating by offering periodic or elective cooking classes on preparing healthful snacks.
  • Educating children and families about healthy nutrition.

Family

An extension of training for parents and children alike:

  • Create a culture of curiosity through a variety of elective topics and activities which stimulate interest in learning.
  • Educate parents on a variety of topics related to technology so that they can better assist their children in school.
  • Ensure that every child has the opportunity to complete their homework so they can progress in their education and are not held back by environmental factors.

Important Policies

Attendance Policy

Children must attend SK2 at least 4 days a week (excluding illness or special school circumstances). Due to the amount of people interested in our program and the limited amount of spaces available, we cannot allow for excessive absences. If your child has insufficient attendance, you will be notified. If attendance does not improve, your child will be dropped out of the program a week after the notice was given.

Late Pick-Up Policy

If a child has not been picked up by 5:00 PM, the child’s parent/ guardian will be charged a late pick-up fee of $1 for every minute per child. The late fee will be due at the time of pick-up and can be paid by cash or credit card. If the late fee is not paid, the child will not be permitted to check in the following day until the fee is paid. If you know you are going to be late to pick up your child, please call us at 937-528-5100 by 4:15 PM.

Electronics Policy

Students are not permitted to use personal electronics during SK2 program activities. All electronics brought must be left in the student’s backpack. We believe electronics, especially cell phones, create a distraction and disconnect between students, activities, peers, and the program. If you wish to contact your child during SK2, please call the Kroc Center directly at 937-528-5100. We are not responsible for any electronic device loss or damage that occurs during SK2 time.
