Every year, parents must choose between giving their children gifts or paying bills. Individuals facing poverty often spend the holidays without the warmth of a shared meal or even a support system.

The holidays can bring added financial and emotional stress to families and individuals living in poverty. From gifts for children in need to special meals for those who would otherwise go without - we aim to bring joy back into the season.

the holidays brighter:

Adopt-a-Family program

In Greater Philadelphia, you can organize a group to adopt a family in need and help them have a more joyous Christmas celebration. The Adopt-A-Family Program serves a limited number of families who are experiencing extreme hardship during the Holiday Season. The common factor shared by all adopted families is their strong need for special care and extra assistance during Christmas. Click here to apply to sponsor an entire family.

Large Angel Tree Toy Drives

This is a group gift giving program great for families, corporate sponsors, or holiday party attendees! Donors are assigned a list of "Angels" and can shop for the perfect gift for the indicated age and gender. The gifts are returned to our office (or shipped) in mid-December for distribution to a local child in need. Click here to sponsor a larger quantity of Angels or to sign up for a toy drive.

Thanksgiving and Christmas hot meals or food baskets

The Salvation Army helps bring people together for the holidays by providing everything needed for a traditional Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner at home and hot meals at our centers where hundreds gather. Click here to help a family in need enjoy a holiday dinner at home

General Angel Tree Toy Drives

The Salvation Army has teamed up with Walmart to bring hope back to the holiday season. Click on the link below to purchase toys for kids who would otherwise go without.
