Violence Prevention Program

Everyone deserves compassion.

We offer compassion and open arms to those who have experienced trauma.

At The Salvation Army in Reading, we believe that helping those who hurt can benefit an entire community. Our Violence Prevention Programs work to address the mental, emotional, and physical needs of children who have experienced trauma so they leave with tangible, lifelong skills.

Therapeutic Groups

Our Violence Prevention Program provides therapeutic resources to children and their families. These groups consist of 10 consecutive weekly groups facilitated by a trauma-informed behavioral specialist. Anticipated outcomes include increased school attendance, improved grades, and better interpersonal skills at home and in the community.

Case Management

Our Violence Prevention Program Director meets with each family to evaluate their needs and refer them to appropriate resources within and outside of The Salvation Army. Clients will receive monthly case management to address concerns, provide support, make referrals, and follow up on the impact the groups have had within the family system.

Education

Clients are educated on violence prevention and social-emotional skills. This will consist of classes for children in our learning center, as well as life skills classes for participants of our Supportive Housing and Pathway of Hope programs.
