Each year, The Salvation Army provides over 10 million nights of shelter to those in need.
You are not alone; The Salvation Army is here for you.
Sometimes life does not turn out how we planned. Our emergency housing options in Reading can help. At The Salvation Army, we have an open door policy when it comes to those needing help with housing—whether they need a place to rest their head at night or assistance finding a way to stay in their own home.
Homelessness can happen to anyone—single men, single women, entire families, the elderly, young adults, and even children. No one population is exempt. Any one of us could be a cancer diagnosis, financial crisis, or house fire away from needing aid. That's why our doors are always open, and we embrace all who walk through them. The Salvation Army offers permanent, supportive and transitional housing, as well as shelter programs to keep individuals and families safe off the streets.
Rapid Rehousing
Clients who qualify for Rapid Rehousing will receive assistance locating a home, temporary monetary assistance toward their rent, Case Management, and learn skills in budgeting goal setting. Case Managers will help clients apply for utility assistance programs and work with them to find resources for medical, mental, and emotional needs.
Permanent Supportive Housing
Individuals and heads of households who are disabled work with The Salvation Army to find permanent housing solutions. Clients in the Permanent Supportive Housing Program will receive rental and utility assistance as well as extensive Case Management. Clients will have access to our income-savings program and volunteer opportunities. The Salvation Army currently provides permanent supportive housing to over 30 families.
Life Skills Classes
All individuals in our Housing Programs have access to voluntary Life Skills Classes. We host presenters from all around the county who can teach clients about resume building, career opportunities, nutrition, violence prevention, coping mechanisms and more. Classes are every Wednesday from 9:30-11:00 AM. The Salvation Army hopes to provide members with sustainable skillsets through Life Skills Classes.
