The Salvation Army’s approach to feeding the hungry is based on the local needs of each community we serve.

  • Those in need across the Northeast can get nutritious, hot meals or groceries from their nearest Salvation Army Service and Worship Center.

  • We feed thousands daily, including the most vulnerable of our communities — underserved children in our after-school programs, the elderly at our Adult Day Centers, forgotten friends at our homeless shelters, people looking to better their lives at our addiction recovery facilities, survivors rebuilding their lives after a disaster, and domestic violence and anti-human trafficking victims.

  • Salvation Army food pantries provide groceries for families and individuals in need. Food is free, but some locations require appointments. Others are on a first-come, first-served walk-in basis. Call your local Salvation Army office or the 211 helpline to determine which food shelf serves your area.

I want to help

I need help

The Salvation Army feeds an average of 150,000 meals every single day.

Anyone in need of a nutritious meal can find one at The Salvation Army. Our holistic approach to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each person helps move many from crisis to empowerment.

Food Stamp Application Help

We help anyone interested in the Federal Food Support Program get a jump start with a pre-screening. Once we determine eligibility, we offer help filing the application.

Hot Meal Programs

From community sit-down programs that provide nutritious hot meals and valuable human interaction, to mobile feeding units delivering sustenance to those who cannot reach a food distribution center, to feeding programs across our hundreds of shelters and residential facilities, we help the most vulnerable escape the daily burdens of food insecurity.

Food Pantries

By supplying free fresh produce, canned goods, and healthy frozen items, our 1,525 food pantries provide valuable meal supplementation while helping those in need maintain their independence and dignity. These food pantries are especially crucial in “food deserts,” where entire communities experience food insecurity due to a lack of grocery store access.

Disaster Feeding

The Salvation Army can quickly mobilize and respond to any natural disaster that impacts the U.S. This response is largely based on feeding the survivors and first responders of the event while providing emotional and spiritual care as well. Our mobile feeding units can serve 500-1,500 meals per day and played an important role in serving nearly 2.4 million people last year.

Community Gardens

Many of the people we serve are also in need of community. Our community gardens provide a no-cost, renewable source of produce, as well as vital work structure and community-building for those who tend it.
