The Salvation Army Announces Annual Sporting Clays Fundraiser

Aug 2, 2023

ROCKWOOD, Pa. (August 3, 2023) – The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division is proud to host the sixth annual Shoot for Hope fundraiser, in honor of Michael Stark. This annual sporting clay fundraiser benefits Pathway of Hope, a program that aims to empower families and end generational poverty. Participants will spend the day shooting clay targets at this outdoor event, presented by BNY Mellon and the Stark family, on Thursday, September 14, at Highlands Sporting Clays, with accommodations provided by Seven Springs Mountain Resort.

“This event would never have come to fruition without the hard work and dedication of Michael Stark, who sadly passed away last December,” Lauren Fair, Divisional Social Services Director for The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division said. “Michael Stark was dedicated to this cause and to our community. We are grateful to his family and friends for continuing his legacy of service. Funds raised from this event will have an impact on families in Western Pennsylvania for generations to come. Thank you for your support and dedication to The Salvation Army.”

Space is limited. Visit salvationarmywpa.org/shootforhope to purchase tickets. There are options to attend as a guest, single player, or a team of four. Sponsorship packages are also available. Registration will open at 8 a.m., followed by safety training at 9:45 a.m., a shotgun start at 10 a.m., followed by a buffet lunch and awards. All skill levels are welcome to participate in this 100-target event. A shotgun will be available at each station; however, shooters can bring their own equipment. Ammunition will be provided; instruction is also available.

Pathway of Hope aims to create a path out of poverty by breaking the cycle of crisis. The program uses an intensive, client‐centered case management approach to empower families and address root causes preventing them from becoming more self‐sufficient. Enrolled families and their respective case managers utilize The Salvation Army’s extensive resources and community connections, developing personalized action plans oriented through a strengths‐based lens to overcome barriers and objectively track their progress over time. The program serves six counties in Western Pennsylvania: Allegheny, Crawford, Erie, Lawrence, Mercer and Venango. In fiscal year 2022 The Salvation Army served 53 families, nine families successfully completed the program, 125 children were impacted and 1,900 family meetings were held.

Shoot for Hope is presented by BNY Mellon and the Stark family. Thank you to our sharpshooter sponsors UPMC, Waldron Private Wealth and Four Buds Racing. A special thanks also to our cart and station sponsor Johnson Bros.
