Getting Started

There is an urgent need for families for children in foster care and for older children and siblings who are waiting to be adopted. We look forward to helping individuals or couples who are interested in becoming a licensed resource family, begin the journey. Our team will treat you with kindness and respect as we walk hand in hand with you through preparing to join the ranks of amazing families who do the most good for precious children.

"In 2018, even with kids of our own, my wife and I felt our home wasn't yet complete. She had experienced her family caring for foster children in her home when she was young. She knew of the need and had a notion for this kind of work. And the work of being a foster parent can be hard, but The Salvation Army made the work of becoming foster parents, easy as they could. Familial support and trauma informed, every person in that agency has a heart for kids and families they serve." - Ryan B., Adoptive Parent

Did You Know...

  • Becoming licensed to foster or adopt a child from Pennsylvania is almost completely free. You pay only for your clearances, your physical with your own doctor, and a water test if you have a well instead of community water.
  • Our families use the web portal extendedReach to complete their paperwork and track the progress of their application, helping things stay organized and streamlined.
  • Our staff includes parents who have fostered and adopted who can help provide guidance from a family's perspective.
  • We provide our families with TBRI training, ensuring that they are prepared to meet the needs of children impacted by trauma.
  • Our families are some of the most well-informed and prepared thanks to our commitment to giving them the tools they need to be successful.
  • During the licensing process, you'll learn so much about yourself, healthy connection, and relationship building.

Families who choose to become foster parents with The Salvation Army Children's Services are families who have a passion for helping children and want to be informed, prepared, and supported. Our families receive the most trauma-informed preparation and develop the skills necessary to meet the unique needs of the children placed in their homes.

When you join us, your family becomes our family and together, we do the most good for children who need us.
