Celebrate Black History Month with The Salvation Army Children's Services!

Feb 10, 2025 | by Angie Gillen

February is Black History Month. To celebrate, we are featuring inspiring and thought-provoking quotes from Black Americans from the worlds of activism, literature, academia, art, science, entertainment, athletics, and more. We'll be looking at how these powerful words can inspire and inform our service as professionals and caregivers supporting children impacted by foster care and adoption. We hope that you'll follow us on Facebook and Instagram to fill up your motivation cup to allow you to keep doing all you do for the precious children we serve or to motivate you to find the ways you can help. If you're so inspired, please reach out to us so we can give you some great ways to get started.

Take a moment to read and reflect on some of the uplifting quotes we're sharing, and be sure to follow us on social media to keep being inspired!

"I learnt that the only way to get a thing done is to start to do it, then keep on doing it, and finally you'll finish it, even if in the beginning you think you can't do it at all." - Langston Hughes

"No matter how often you fall from grace, what matters most is how many times you get up." - Taraji P. Henson, Around the Way Girl

"Courage does not always roar." - Tomi Adeyemi, Children of Blood and Bone

"When I dare to be powerful to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid." - Audre Lorde
