The Echelon: Driving Innovation and Making a Difference in Greater New York
Welcome to the first update from The Echelon, Greater New York chapter! We are a vibrant group of young professionals who make up The Salvation Army's junior board. We are passionately committed to the organization's mission through innovative fundraising and volunteer activities across Greater New York. Our chapter, now boasting eleven dedicated members, continues to grow, attracting individuals eager to enhance their leadership skills, expand their professional networks, and make a meaningful impact through volunteerism.

We have some thrilling events lined up and noteworthy achievements to share!
Backpack Filling Event
We are gearing up for our much-anticipated Backpack Filling Event on Wednesday, August 7th. This event ensures that kids in family shelters and local Corps Community Centers are well-prepared for the upcoming school year. Here's what you need to know:
- Date: Wednesday, August 7th
- School Supplies Included: Backpacks, paper, pencils, markers, crayons, pencil pouches, erasers, sharpeners, glue sticks, scissors, dry erase boards & markers, notebooks, highlighters, pens, folders, colored pencils, calculators, and hygiene kits (comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, washcloth). The supplies will be separated by age group to ensure age-appropriate items.
- Backpacks to be Filled: We will hand-pack about 272 backpacks
- Recipients: The backpacks will go to kids at our family shelter and local Corps Community Centers. We will reach out to our staff and families to determine the number of bags needed to ensure every child is ready for the new school year with a brand-new school bag filled with all the supplies they need.
Yankees Game in September
Mark your calendars for our fun-filled Yankees game outing in September! This event is about enjoying a great game, meeting new people, and potentially gaining new members for our chapter. - Instagram Milestone: We just hit 100 followers on Instagram! Thank you to everyone who follows us at @echelongny. Your support helps us spread the word about our initiatives and events.
- New Executive Board Member: We are excited to welcome Emmanuel Daudu, our newest Service Chair, to the Executive Board. With Emmanuel on board, our executive team now has five members, working alongside our other dedicated members.
