Women's History Month

Mar 28, 2025 | by Syed Adib

March is a time to celebrate the historic contributions of women who have profoundly impacted society. It's also a time to recognize the dedication of women in leadership roles who consistently support those who depend on them.

Since its inception, The Salvation Army has championed women, empowering them to reach their full potential and experience spiritual growth. Whether through support for single mothers, assistance for individuals recovering from substance abuse, or guidance for those affected by domestic violence, The Salvation Army has consistently supported women at every stage of life, working to ensure their success.

This Women's History Month, we celebrate several exceptional women serving within our corps, who have strengthened our communities, particularly in the face of adversity. Their impact extends beyond the services they provide; it's also evident in their compassionate words, encouraging smiles, and inspiring energy. We recognize these individuals as strong leaders who embody The Salvation Army's mission to "Do the Most Good" in our communities.

Lieutenant Esther Mobley

Originally from Philadelphia, Lieutenant Esther Mobley faced significant hardships during her youth. Her story of surviving domestic violence and overcoming adversity to become the person she is today is truly inspiring. During a difficult period, Ms. Mobley found support at a local Salvation Army corps in Philadelphia. Regular attendance provided stability and positivity in her life. Through volunteerism, Bible study, and the belief of others in her potential, she embarked on a new path. Her perseverance in the face of challenges was recognized, and she advanced to her current position as the officer in charge of the Stapleton Corps in Staten Island, New York.

“We are fulfilling the mission that God has given to us. I am a minister of the gospel and that is always the priority. So all of these other things [are] part of the scope but the main thing for me is that God has called me to fulfill his mission and his vision. And I am grateful that I get the opportunity to do that in the midst of all that is going on, in the midst of all the things that I have to do, I remember that this is about God and what he has called me to do.”
