The Salvation Army has changed lives and given hope to countless people throughout the nation. But it never does it alone.

Your time makes a difference for families in need! We have many year-round and seasonal volunteer opportunities available at The Salvation Army. When you join our team of volunteers, you’re helping us build communities where lives are changed and hope is found. Volunteers are one of our strongest resources in meeting the needs of a community. We welcome volunteers 18 and over to serve with us. Unfortunately, due to the nature of our programs, we cannot accept volunteers under the age of 18 on-site. However, children can participate in our Kettle Campaign, Angel Tree, and LemonAiD programs. Learn more about those opportunities below.

Due to our year-round care of vulnerable adults and children, our volunteers must complete background checks and provide references.

Traditional Kettles

The Red Kettle Campaign is The Salvation Army’s largest, yearly annual fundraiser. This campaign raises funds for many of the year-round programs we offer the local community including our Emergency Shelter, Food and Clothing Bank. During the holiday season, volunteer groups are needed in a variety of ways to help make this campaign a success. See these opportunities below to find out how you can help!

  • Kettle Bell Ringers: Ring bells at kettle stands throughout Lexington with your group between November 29th-December 24th. Individuals, church groups, civic clubs, businesses, and families are all welcome to ring the bell at a kettle stand for a day. We request that volunteer groups commit to a four-hour shift.
  • Drivers: Transport bell ringers to their kettle stand during the morning shift (9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.), and transport drivers back to The Salvation Army during the evening shift (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)
  • Driver’s Assistant: Ride with drivers during the evening shift (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) to assist in coordinating kettles and bell ringers back to The Salvation Army.

Online Kettles

The Salvation Army's online kettles allow you to raise donations by sharing your online kettle link with your family and friends! To create your own online kettle, please click here.

  • Georgetown: Please contact their offices at (502) 863-1551.

Angel Tree

The Angel Tree program provides new clothing and toys for children of needy families. Each year, thousands of families benefit from this program, which helps to make the holiday season brighter for children who might otherwise go without gifts. Volunteers are needed to help manage the Angel Tree locations and ensure the smooth distribution of gifts.

Angel Tree volunteers are needed at:

  • Fayette Mall Volunteers: Help sign out Angel Tree tags and receive returned gifts
  • Distribution Center: Help organize gifts once they arrive at the center

For more information or to volunteer with our Angel Tree program, please fill out the volunteer inquiry form.

LemonAiD

LemonAiD supports local homeless children while empowering young people to make a positive difference in our community. By operating a LemonAiD stand during the month of June, kids raise money that supports children staying at The Salvation Army's Emergency Homeless Shelter in Lexington.

For more information about LemonAiD, please fill out the volunteer inquiry form.
