GENERAL POLICIES & CODE OF CONDUCT

The following are not permitted at the Boston Kroc Center:
1. Smoking
2. Drugs or alcohol
3. Graffiti or gang markings
4. Bad language: angry or vulgar language, including swearing, name-calling and shouting.
5. Weapons: no weapons are permitted on or near the premises, concealed or otherwise. This includes devices that could be used as a weapon.
6. Physical contact: There should be no physical contact with another person in an angry or threatening manner.
7. Sexual activity: This includes any demonstration of sexual activity or sexual contact, with another person or yourself.
8. Harassment: This includes intimidation via words, gestures, body language, and any other menacing behavior.
9. Loitering or solicitation
10. Pets, except for seeing-eye dogs with approved licenses.
11. Loud music. All personal music must be played on earphones at a volume that cannot be heard by others. The interpretation of appropriate volume levels is left up to Kroc management and staff.
12. Glass containers: Please do not use glass containers on the premises for the safety of small children.
13. Skateboarding, scooters, bicycles (use bike stands), or rollerblading.
14. Destruction of Kroc Center property
15. Bullying
16. Videos and/or photos, unless approved by The Salvation Army Boston Kroc Center Administration.

VIDEO & PHOTO POLICY

The Kroc Center will occasionally take photos and/or video footage of members and various activities for general marketing purposes. If anyone does not desire for themselves or their family members to be photographed/ recorded, please step out of the way and notify the photographer/ videographer before the record is taken. Video recorders, cameras, and other visual recording devices are not allowed without the express written consent of the Kroc Center Administrator. Anyone caught taking photos/ video of another person without their permission and/or knowledge will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law by The Salvation Army Kroc Center Administration, including possible termination of the offender’s membership privileges, or denial of access for a non-member.

DRESS CODE


FITNESS AREA: All individuals on the Kroc Center premises should be in appropriate attire for the activities that they are participating in. There should NOT be exposure of undergarments or of areas of the body deemed sexual in nature. Everyone should have a minimum of:

  • For Men
    • Shorts, t-shirt/ tank top, and shoes
  • For Women
    • Shorts, athletic top, and shoes

Clothing should not display offensive wording or pictures. Not only should there be appropriate outer garments worn, but also the appropriate undergarments for the choice of activity. Inappropriate language and/or pictures seen on clothing will be requested to be changed to clothing more appropriate for a family-oriented community center.


AQUATICS AREA: Men should wear apparel specifically made for men. Women should wear swimming apparel designed for women. Thongs and other inappropriate attire for a family-friendly environment are not allowed. Interpretation of appropriate dress is left up to Kroc management and staff. Any child or individual having issues with control of bowel movements must wear a swim diaper while in the pool.

Please read this Waiver carefully as it affects your legal rights in the event of an injury, contraction of a communicable disease, infection and/or damage to property. 

LIABILITY WAIVER

Participant understands that use of the facilities and equipment at The Salvation Army Kroc Center may involve risk of bodily injury or property damage and Participant agrees to assume any such risks. Participant understands that it is up to him/her to consult physicians and other professionals to make sure that he/she can safely participate in activities and events at The Salvation Army Kroc Center. Participant also understands and agrees that by registering, he/she is giving up his/her (or the minor for whom he/she signs) right to make any claim against The Salvation Army, its agents, employees and volunteers, including the right to sue them, for bodily injury or property damage or any other loss that Participant might suffer while using The Salvation Army Kroc Center facilities and services, except as limited by law.


Participant hereby acknowledges that the news media may be present at The Salvation Army or functions involving The Salvation Army from time to time and that such news media may generate and/or publish audio tracks, video images, or both, that include his/her voice and/or image.


Participant hereby releases and discharges The Salvation Army, it successors, assigns and agents from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with the use of any of the foregoing, including any claims for defamation, invasion of privacy or violation of any statutory right.

Individuals, families, and seniors who cannot afford Center membership can apply for a discount. Eligibility for this program is based on income level. Scholarship applications are available online or at the information desk. 

One or two adults living in a household and dependents who are eligible up to the age of 17. An individual with a disability or an elderly parent who is financially dependent on and is living in the same household with the primary member will remain eligible for the Family membership. Verification of family status and residency may be required. For example: tax return, utility bill, health insurance, etc.

Annual payments may be paid in full by cash, check, major credit/debit card. Fees are equivalent to 12 monthly payments. The annual fee is due at time of enrollment.

Full payment is expected at the time of enrollment. No cash refunds are given unless the program is canceled by The Kroc Center. If the program is canceled by the Kroc Center, you will be given the choice of a full credit or a cash refund. If you request to cancel your class enrollment five or more days prior to the first class, you will receive a full credit on your Kroc Center account minus a $5 processing fee or you may choose to transfer to another session if available. Requests made less than five days prior to the start date are not eligible for a refund or credit, except in the case of personal emergencies. No credits or pro-rated credits will be issued for missed days of camp or class due to illness, partial attendance, behavior issues, or any other reason.

Gift Cards are available for purchase at the front desk and can be used by recipient to pay for memberships, class and program fees, facility rentals, merchandise, and cafe items. Gift cards cannot be used for class materials, theater & performance tickets, vendor events or non-Kroc sponsored events.

The Boston Kroc Center offers a wide range of programs and activities that utilize the gymnasium and fitness spaces. These spaces are designed for multi-purpose use and are utilized by several Salvation Army departments and programs. If/when these spaces are rented by outside groups, the expectations below remain in effect. The general list below regulates the behavior of those who enter. In order that all users might enjoy the experience at the Boston Kroc Center your compliance is most appreciated. Most importantly, we want all users to honor God in thought, speech, action, and presentation of self.

 

Child Facility Access

· Ages 0 -12 must be accompanied by an adult (18+) at the Kroc Center.

· Ages 13 - 15 may only use the circuit series and fitness equipment after completing a Teen Fit orientation with a staff member. Call or visit the Fitness Desk for more information.

· Ages 16+ may use the entire facility.

 

Fitness Center & Gym Guidelines

 

  • Kind, respectful, and non-abusive or threatening language is expected always.
  • All gym bags are to be secured in a locker.
  • All food must be eaten before entering the Fitness area and/or Gymnasium.
  • No hanging on basketball rims.
  • No sitting on bleachers when they are closed.
  • Music must be played in headphones and not audible/heard by others.
  • The Kroc Center reserves the right to provide accommodations for all users if/when necessary. This means separating the gym by lowering the curtain, lowering or raising the basketball hoops, limiting game time, or enforcing a point max on each game.
  • Personal training and Sports Training of any kind is prohibited and permitted only by Kroc Center Staff.
  • The opening and closing of bleachers must be performed only by an authorized staff member.
  • The Salvation Army is not responsible for personal belongings lost or stolen in the facility. Please bring your own lock and use a locker while participating in an activity. All locks must be removed after your workout. All locks will be removed daily by the center staff at 8pm.
  • Please report any equipment problems to a Recreation & Fitness Department staff member.
  • No solicitation or loitering.
  • Appropriate, safe, and family-friendly attire is expected (read below):
    • Athletic Shoes: Athletic shoes with proper ankle, heel, and arch support. Athletic shoes with non-marking rubber soles. Examples: Running shoes, athletic walking shoes, basketball shoes, sneakers, high tops, aerobic shoes. Not Permitted: Boots, cleats, Timberlands, flip flops, crocks, open-toed sandals, heels, working shoes, socks, and bare feet.
    • Athletic Pants: Athletic material such as cotton Lycra, nylon, spandex, terry cloth, or polyamide that allows the skin to breath and does not constrict blood flow. Examples: Sports pants, fitness tights, sweatpants. Not Permitted: Jeans, cargo pants, frayed or torn pants, BDUs, provocative clothing, pants with zippers, buckles, loops, rivets, or buttons.
    • Athletic Shorts: Athletic material such as cotton Lycra, nylon, spandex, terry cloth, or polyamide that allows the skin to breathe and does not constrict blood flow. Examples: Sports gym shorts, bike shorts. Not Permitted: Jean/cargo shorts, frayed or torn shorts, provocative clothing, shorts with zippers, buckles, loops, rivets, or buttons.
    • Athletic Shirts: Athletic material such as cotton Lycra, nylon, spandex, terry cloth, or polyamide that allows the skin to breathe and does not constrict blood flow. Examples: T-shirts, tank tops, muscle shirts, nylon cotton mesh, and women’s workout shirts. Not Permitted: Bare chest, low cut, cut-offs, jogging/sports bra, derogatory verbiage, mid-drift shirts exposing excessive skin, plastic/rubber suits.
    • Accessories: Any item that can get caught on equipment and cause injury to self or others and/or damage to equipment. Not Permitted: Excessive jewelry or metal attachments including rings, chains, pagers, phones, and keys while using the equipment.
  • Be responsible and return all borrowed equipment to the fitness desk when finished.
  • To use the rock-climbing wall or high ropes course, you must have signed all appropriate activity waivers and must be supervised by an authorized staff member. 

VIOLATIONS OF ANY OF THESE POLICIES MAY RESULT IN YOUR MEMBERSHIP PRIVILEGES BEING SUSPENDED OR TERMINATED.

The Policies are subject to change at any time at the discretion of the Salvation Army.

Public drop-in access is intended for inclusive recreational use. Any external personal or group use/training/coaching should contact the rental department of specific group requests.

Code of Conduct & Discipline Policy

In order to facilitate positive life experiences while at The Kroc Center, mutual respect between members, guests, and staff is required at all times. Failure to observe these policies will result in disciplinary action and/or termination of membership privileges. Center personnel have the right to refuse service to anyone deemed disruptive or abusive.

  1. Children under the age of 11 must be accompanied in The Kroc Center.
  2. Proper workout attire is required in fitness area. Apparel must be modest with no excessive skin showing. Clothing design, including logos or messages on apparel, and all visible tattoos must be acceptable in a family setting.
  3. Only athletic, non marking, light colored, soft soled shoes are allowed on gym floor.
  4. Refrain from the use of foul language, abusive actions, and inappropriate behavior.
  5. Lost membership cards must be reported and replaced within 30 days. There is a $5 fee to replace a membership card.
  6. No one under the age of 12 is allowed in the Fitness Area unless participating in a Kroc Center program or class. Members 12–14 may use the Fitness Area after successfully passing the Smart Start for Teens program.
  7. No swim wear or wet clothing is allowed outside of aquatic areas. Swim wear must be acceptable in a family setting.
  8. Bicycles, roller blades, skateboards, scooters or pets (excluding service animals) will not be allowed inside the facility.
  9. Alcohol and/or drugs are not allowed anywhere on the premises.
  10. Smoking and/or use of any type of smokeless tobacco products are prohibited in the facility or on facility grounds.
  11. Weapons of any kind are not permitted on the premises.
  12. With exceptions to special dietary restrictions, outside food is not allowed at The Salvation Army Kroc Center.
  13. The Kroc Center reserves the right to terminate membership in response to any immoral or illegal activity by a member.

Safety Information

The Salvation Army is dedicated to keeping children and vulnerable adults safe from physical, emotional and sexual harm. We refer to our safety efforts as KeepSAfe.

KeepSAfe guidelines ensure The Boston Kroc Center emphasizes safety in the following ways:

  • Salvation Army personnel (officers, employees and volunteers) are trained in child abuse prevention and are mandated reporters of suspected child/vulnerable adult abuse.
  • Salvation Army personnel undergo criminal background checks.
  • Adults accessing the facility will be screened against public sexual offender registry.
  • The Kroc Center maintains video surveillance of the facility 24 hours a day.
  • Instructors are trained in appropriate interactions with Kroc members to enhance learning by creating a safe and inviting environment.
  • Programs involving children are closely monitored to ensure adequate supervision and safe interactions between Kroc personnel and children.
  • In order to promote a safe and secure environment, The Salvation Army Boston Kroc Center has placed video cameras in various locations. As part of our commitment to the safety of children and vulnerable persons, The Salvation Army Kroc Center reserves the right to consult public sources to determine whether any member or guest of any member poses an unreasonable risk of harm to its patrons, staff, or visitors.
  • The Boston Kroc Center constantly adapts and enhances safety protocols to adjust to needs.

Members and guests are encouraged to report suspicious behavior. Forms for anonymous reporting, called Confidential Notices of Concern, are available at the Front Desk.

The Salvation Army Boston Kroc Center reserves the right to remove from the facility and terminate the membership of any member who fails to comply with any posted rules and regulation or otherwise breaches the Code of Conduct, in which case member will not be entitled to a refund of dues.
